Over 70% of our world is ocean. We have explored about 5% of this vast space. Scientist estimate that we derive 50-80% of our oxygen from the ocean. But some would say we know more about outer space than we do about the ocean.
I can get lost sitting on the beach and watching the tide move in, similar to one’s fascination watching the flames flicker in a fireplace. And for me, being in the ocean is a form of meditation; all my worries are absorbed by the medium surrounding me and my sole focus is what presents itself in my viewfinder.
To be in the presence of so many beautiful creatures at depth is a gift.
I know I don’t belong down there but I’m grateful to be a guest that can capture the moment in photography.
Hopefully, the more people that are exposed to the wonders of the deep through the lens of a camera, the better understanding we will all have and the more sympathetic we will all be as to the importance of life in the ocean and how we are all symbionts.
Respect.
